If you’ve known me for any amount of time in the past 9 months, you know that I own a dog. His name is Wynston.
Have you seen Marley and me? Wynston makes Marley look like Flash Slothmore from Zootopia. Here’s a little about Wynston…
He ate my hammock, he ate my porch swing, he ate all my random lawn chairs, he’s in the process of eating my back door. I replaced the screen door with a new screen since he’d eaten that. I bought the kind that said “pet-resistant.” Apparently Wynston doesn’t qualify as a “pet.” Toys last minutes (minus his squeaky hotdog). Let’s go for a walk? Here let me wrap you up in my leash and attempt to break your leg by pulling you off the porch while holding a baby. How about I bust threw the fence every time you need to go to the vehicle so you can spend 15 minutes hollering and chasing me.
I take him for walks, I teach him tricks, I pretend he is the smartest dog ever to convince him we are friends. Nothing works. So all that to say. If you own cattle and you need a dog, Wynston is for you! 🙂 He needs a job!
After months of complaining about this dog, making an effort to entertain him, and trying to get rid of him, sadly, I realized I am just like him.
Restless.
People keep saying, He needs to go for a walk. Take him for a run. He needs to play fetch. He needs this toy or that toy to stimulate his brain. He needs to work.
I tend to go and go and go and go and when I don’t have enough “go”ing on, I get restless. My brain starts spinning and asking questions that eat at me for days. I need something to stimulate my brain. To wear me out. To make me think in new ways.
I will avoid sharing all the questions I’ve been asking because I simply think it’s too much for even me to comprehend at this point…so I’ll start with the heaviest thought of the moment.
Well God just doesn’t move like he used to.
What?!
I’ve heard people say this somewhat recently. After much thinking, this is the best I can come up with…some people read the bible. Or maybe they sit in a church service on a weekly basis and listen to a preacher talk about the bible. Or maybe they’ve heard about the bible…or maybe you think people who say this are crazy as you see God work and move in your life every single day! As people read the bible or listen to it preached, they are constantly hearing about what God did. How he healed someone here…or how he used someone there…or how he calmed the seas. Whatever it may be…the bible shares these instances.
So many others have tried their hand at putting together a story of the wonderful harvest of Scripture and history that took place among us, using reports handed down by the original eyewitnesses who served this Word with their very lives. Since I have investigated all the reports in close detail, starting from the story’s beginning, I decided to write it all out for you, most honorable Theophilus, so you can known beyond the shadow of a doubt the reliability of what you were taught. (Luke 1:1-4)
Then there is Paul who is one example of a person who constantly shared with others what God did in and through him. Or David signing hymns praising God for all He did!
After healing a demon possessed man Jesus says go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you. Mark 5:19
And not only should we tell others, but if you are in a moment of doubting remember that His people are able to do so much through Him! (Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20, NASB)
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. John 14:12-14
God is able! He is still doing great things through His people…so why not tell about it? Why keep quiet? Whether it be the moment you gave your life to Christ…or the moment He spoke straight to your heart through a children’s coloring page. God is still showing Himself in huge and mighty ways…but many “people” don’t think He moves as much or as mightily…and maybe a simple reason is because so many people are silent. Who knows. That’s the best I’ve come up with so far.
Can you do me a favor and ease my restlessness of this question? I’ve heard several of you tell me that you are reading this blog…so for those of you who do…who feels an ounce of push to speak…feel free to share what God has done in your life, what He’s currently doing, or what you are praying He does!! Feel free to comment here or email me at brooke@noes2knows.com.
Bye friends! 🙂
