Brooke: Kyler! It’s Brooke. Are you awake?
Kyler: Yes I am!
Brooke: Any chance you are free for a bit this morning and could take me to my dad’s in Weatherford? Kyle is in Chickasha, my dad has carpet layers coming, my van is leaking oil, the oil place is closed, I realized I have no friends to call [who don’t live 15 minutes out of town or have at least 3 small children], and I have a wedding I need to leave for in a couple of hours. Dad’s going to let me borrow his Yukon if I can get over there. If you want to help a girl out, I could leave Hinton anytime between 8:10 and 9:30. But no pressure!
Kyler: I’m in Arkansas right now for basketball or I definitely would! I will try to find someone for you. Give me one second.
Brooke: (Realizes she just text one of her college students who was traveling for his basketball game and proceeded to laugh/cry for 10 minutes.)
And to think I was centimeters away from including the additional frustrations from that morning, “I realized the shampoo bottle was empty after I got in the shower and had to retrieve more, and I dropped a bottle of conditioner on my toe.”
Thank you Holy Spirit for redirecting my typing fingers.
Apparently, I never saved my cousin’s phone number after he returned from Florida and here I was assuming one was his new number and one was his old number.
Luckily, my 81 and 86 year old grandparents came in clutch and let me catch a ride on their way to their normal Saturday morning breakfast at Lucille’s.
Let me set the record straight, I do not office on campus and therefore all of my students have my cell phone number. If they’ve ever contacted me and left an inkling of their name via text or voicemail, my phone pops it in as “maybe their name.”The morning definitely didn’t go as planned, but I will say the biggest travesty of the whole day was that Freddy’s failed to give me their fry sauce that I specifically asked for and was the one and only reason I even went there.
