Kyle: Would you like to know why there’s a Swedish Fish in my pocket?
Me: Weird face
Kyle: Because Everly put it there.
Let’s be real. Kids are strange little things.
As I was making french toast (minus the egg –per Hads request) last night, I looked over and Hads was putting a hammer in a stick of butter. During my rant to Kyle about how strange kids are (spurred on by the buttery hammer), I looked over and Everly had a beanie pulled down over her eyes to her chin in her old little world. Two minutes later, Everly threw some fit and I sent her up to her room. I went up to get her and find her laying in her bed in a pillow case. Ten minutes after this, Kyle finds a Swedish Fish in his pocket.
Pretty sure parents have the most interesting jobs ever. We work with a demographic that is unpredictable, emotional, hilarious, whiny, and downright difficult. Cute…yes, they are cute! Lovable…of course. However, these things don’t always make the day-to-day simple. I often tell my husband how much I enjoy working because I don’t think I’m tough enough to be a stay at home mom (props to all of you out there). Don’t get me wrong…I love my little crazies, but parenting is hard! I realize these are the moments that play a huge role in contributing to my Ungraceful Dying Flamingo life.
But then they sleep. They sleep and they remind me of what sweet, beautiful little creatures they are. That they were created.
Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.Psalm 139:13-16 (MSG)
They were created. They are known. We were created. We are known. We were marvelously made. I just love the beauty of this! I never feel more loved than when I read this…being reminded that I am known inside and out. Every bone in my body. Knowing my messiness, my sin, my unlovable-ness, and yet I am still loved by the Creator of the universe.

We morph from strange children into strange adults into strange older adults. People being people, yet adored…especially when they are tiny snuggly sisters that may or may not fall asleep in a pillow case.
