Recently my middle child decided that clothes are the worst! I mean it’s been going on since winter as I remember letting her wear the only dress she liked for 5 days straight and shorts and a t-shirt to church for months…but the past few weeks have been significantly worse. The kid currently has one pair of shorts, one skirt, and three shirts that she “likes” to wear…and let’s not even discuss shoes and socks. Let’s simply say mornings are the worst because clothes are the worst! (However, it has highlighted just how little a 3-year-old actually “needs” in regards to wardrobe!)
Earlier this week after realizing she had to wear clothes to daycare she cried and cried and cried. We got ready, got in the car and she continued to cry. In between her sobs, I hear her little voice singing along to her VBS CD.
We have joy, (sniffle) joy, joy
Undeniable joy, joy, (sniffle) joy
Indescribable (sniffle) joy, joy, joy
We’ve got the joy of the Lord (sobs)
If Satan is all up in your business trying to teal your joy, this is a sweet little reminder that even in the midst of tears, heartache, struggles, and those seasons when everything that can go wrong does go wrong…we have joy!
Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. (Habakkuk 3:17-18)
