“The Universe will keep two people apart until the timing is right. When you meet, there will be so many ‘coincidences’ in the timing. If one thing had fallen out of line, you would never have crossed paths. But the universe aligns, and you will realize that everything you went through before you met was just preparing your heart for them.”
In an instant life can change. With one sentence, one moment, the life you knew can become an idea you will never grasp; while the life you’re walking into might be the furthest thing from what you expected. Maybe worse, but maybe better than you ever imagined.
It’s funny how life works.
In the 8th grade, I have a vivid memory of Kyle Fuller walking into our Spanish class. I was on the far left side of the classroom, in the second row from the front. I saw him and remember saying quietly, “There is absolutely no reason why I shouldn’t marry him.”
He drove me home from church in his cool red jeep a time or two (more out of niceness than a desire to spend time with yours truly), but apparently my 14/15-year-old swag didn’t have much pizzazz back in the early 2000s (similar to my present day swag) and that was the extent of our togetherness.
The crush proceeded for awhile (as in years) until I realized this was probably an idea that would never come to fruition. I went on to love others, walk through hurt, and he became a distant memory.
Life, however, has a way of keeping things interesting.
“Hey, how are you? It’s been awhile…”
In an instant, I received an unexpected message that would change my life and become a constant reminder that God can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.
Nine years ago, February 13th consisted of seeing each other for the first time in 10 years, Hideaway Pizza, Bates Motel (ugh), and a motorcycle ride around Oklahoma City on a freezing 50-some degree night. Two months later we were engaged, another 2 we were married…and 2 months after that I was pregnant with Malachi.
Crazy to think that was nine years ago.
I’ve teased him for years about loads of things. His need to question the done-ness of his chicken thighs every single time he grills impeccable chicken thighs. The way he holds his toothbrush. His mustache that is unfortunately sticking around for a few more months. (Listen, I don’t loathe his face, okay, I just love his beard). The fact that he never even glanced my way when we were younger.
He always retorts with, “If we would’ve dated then it wouldn’t have lasted. You wouldn’t have wanted high school Kyle.”
“The Universe will keep two people apart until the timing is right…the universe aligns, and you will realize that everything you went through before…was just preparing your heart for them.”
Now, I’m not one to think the universe is orchestrating things, but to the Creator of the Universe, thank you for keeping two people apart until the timing was right.
Thanks for the first date nine years ago and for the super surprise flowers today!
Happy February 13th!
P.S. WordPress is apparently no longer okay with my long sentences or complex words. Half of this blog is underlined in purple and is screaming “use shorter sentences and avoid big words like ‘however and similar’ and desire.”
For those who like short sentences: Kyle is handsome. Brooke had a crush. Kyle asked Brooke on a date. Dates are fun. We ate pizza. We rode his motorcycle. We got married.
